Change the world - Google chrome

Google chrome is the latest browser running under Windows. It is a new era being created, because it will go head to head with Microsoft and will always make the first cloud based alternative. Today is also without their new Web browser, to provide Google still good alternative to Microsoft Office. She will need not even Windows, if it advantage. Their only need a minimal allocation of Linux is equipped with Mozilla Firefox, and you are to go set.

Google placed Google chrome on the front position of cloud computing. Google is speed with software also with a view to a problem on slower user adaptation as their service. The most affected group are the Canadians, because all information published with an electronic source, which is based on the can United States countries by making a request of the US Government agencies are notified.

Almost anyone can many non-technical persons including certainly Google applications fit even if it takes them some time. Microsoft will suffer if your company will investigate possibilities to respond to competition with their own such offer. Microsoft should take a step while it is still too early to save their businesses.

Google chrome is one of the leading browser is used by most users. It is easy to use and anyone of any age can simply adjust to use Google chrome. While there are other browsers out there battle with better performance, chrome is definitely his way to the top.

Google patent application – link

The recently submitted by Google patent application details many elements that used the search engine land website. The application is as summarized:

"A method for the setting of a document, consisting of: identification of a document;" Retrieve one or more types of history data with the document attached; "and generate a score for the document based on one or several types of history data."

Significant for the pursuing search engine optimization with Google highlights the patent application. Patent applications may be hard to understand, so are the following highlights for those who speak not lawyer.

Google link review

It is known that Google links used as significant ranking element. Although the patent dispute not the value of the link, it highlights the best method for tracking a link strategy. Simply put, is consistently add links have a much better effect than bouquets add links in.

Google notes in the patent application, which it considered links from a historical perspective. The search engine notes the discovery date of links, the lifetime of the connection and the speed with which one receives new Web site links. This approach shows that Google quick link exchange strategies as buy bulk links for your site is discounting. Instead, Google will consider a natural link development as a sign into account, that a site "legitimate".

A bit hard to nail down the details for a good linking strategy. Google tries in the patent application hide the evaluation method by factors, the links to a Web site to review comment "maybe" list. Factors that are considered "could" include:

(1) The anchor text of links.

(2) The discovery date of the connection.

(3) The rate of growth of links to your site.

4. The rate with which links to a page appear and disappear.

(5) Years links with older links more book value.

6. Number of links is to a new site considered spam if some of the links from valued sites.

7. Link growth that is constant is optimal.

8. Sudden bunch of new links will be devalued as spam.

A general topic is clear how to read the Google patent application. Google regularly update values sites that are there for the long term, and consequently grow in link popularity. Taking into account this topic, it is easy to understand why the Google Sandbox exists.

A steady approach is the key, if you intent is to get top ranking in Google. While the delay can be aggravating, the results are certainly worth.

Google hold on the Internet

In the last few days, I really surprised, like huge Google have been become. Questions you are might be 'what took you so long'. Well I know always Google was great, but it is more common in my head lately.

Revolutionizing how Google changed / the Internet?
I updated my iPhone 2.2 update recently, and Google have views of the street, has been enjoying on maps. I downloaded the Google application so that I my Google can access reader, Gmail, Google Earth and YouTube in one place. And it not only everything. Google has a say in almost every aspect of the Internet, search engines, blogging to Web browser, operating system. And just when you think they are blurred, they surprise you again.

Since the release of T-Mobile G1, the first portable device use Google Android operating system, have I been wanting to get my hands. Although I do not think that I would replace my iPhone, I would like to see what could do with this kind of 'Power' of Google. The iPhone in and of itself has a strong presence, with it's on YouTube icon of day 1, Google search as it the default search engine Google and Google mail-ready in mail. You're ready, more services to make the attempt to monopolize not utilities. Most companies had not others use their tools when it means it could be their own profit effect, but Google [iPhone is a strong competitor with the G1], instead thinking as a way to grow it.

In fact, as I write you now I my reviews running Google AdSense ads, with fee later URI [now in addition to Google] for my RSS feed, and YouTube video for many write this chrome Web browser, on a site in Google. My website could not have happened if for the great tools it is not that Google has made billions of people available yet. I remember back in grade school when Google was first mainstream, and, by a classmate was told to go there, something to search, and I think that it was a silly name. Now, I would be was not surprising, if the verb 'Google' to dictionary [right now I still get the red squiggly line under it] added.

With the economy the way, how, who has been there, and Google has issue fall under $300 per share for the first time since August 2005, me what Google will do next? What to do? She could just sit back and continue to update their rewards, services, push may have additional updates Google chrome, Android and Earth harvest. But with their reputation for keeping I don't think services in beta for amounts of time [not Gmail still 'Beta'?], would they stay and release only updates. There are too many people in society just sit and to update, to turn while waiting for the economy.

I think, the likely situation is that she continue to have great ideas, only not so often to delete. The biggest opponents to the G1 phone is not the iPhone, BlackBerry storm, or instinct, but rather the economy. In times like these, people may have not the money on luxury goods, buy, so that these phones are all the hits [unless there is some big price reductions]. When Google make solid software, when you update the online application store and still, I think firmware, she could be building a platform for success on the market of G1. For the online entities, they have covered most of the basics that those holding only a question of tightening up.

But how you advertise for a company like Google? Do you do custom advertising for any product or the experience as a whole? Or you market at all? Where Google go out from here? In the direction of software? More online applications? Hardware? Tell what do you think me!

As to your Google home page and what you offer

The Internet is fast and furiously for several years now grown, and it is hard to believe that it now a decade since the dot com busts of 2000 or so was... There were many companies, which had no idea what they were doing, but just decided, jump on the train and do what had tried everyone else to drive new business. Although there were many errors at this time, also some very successful companies which came out this time, including an incredible company Google called. No one can their dominance on the stage today as far as have around available online and the most effective marketing the best search engine traffic dispute.

In fact, your Google home page is crucial to that which is best possible information at your fingertips, and it strongly recommended that you your home page for the start of your search. I have used other sites and search engines in the past, but I can tell you from experience that nothing better than to start up your computer and open a fresh it browser window to your Google homepage. Time is too short to messing around with other search engines, it is a good idea, just to get you to work with the best and the way to do this, that is, you want your computer, that Google be the default Web site when you open a new browser.

It's actually very easy to establish to the Google home page as your default home page. If you simply use the Internet Explorer browser a new window and navigate to the top on the page and click "Internet Options" on "Tools", then. The "General" tab should be displayed, and only enter in the Google website dot com into the box and click "OK" at the bottom. Then you can close this window and open a new and should your new Google home page to come! If you use the Firefox browser, it is very similar, except that you navigate to "Tools" and then "options".

Google has so many tools and options for the average user, including Google images, Google mail, Google AdWords, Google AdSense, Google video and Google maps. There are so many things, you have to access, that they are all here named can not. But in reality everything is the Internet, what the average person for uses easily at your finger tips on this page! Gmail or Google mail, is one of the best available today E-mail because in contrast to other companies they not much on all block from getting to your Inbox. Many times I have a problem with Comcast with email always either in or out, which is lost, and are never seen! But with Google, we have not the problem, and that is why I always recommend people, a free Google to get account from the Google home page. Look under the many options listed at the top of the page, and soon you will find the link for that log.

One thing that I recommend for newbies is your main create account first of all that which will keep for a long time and are then all other most important Google accounts at this email address. This is how Google serves you track which, by your Gmail address and if you are later interested in signing up for Google AdSense or Google AdWords, then they are associated with your main account, and you must log on does not have multiple accounts... The is the biggest disadvantage of using Google, is that they check out you of an account before logging in another on the same computer. But if all you need is all in an account, then you're done!

Google AdSense and Google AdWords are fantastic tools if you were marketing, products or information on the Internet are interested in and learn a lot from their back-office, in your account. AdWords is a pay-per-click-tool, with which you have an ad that you create, shown, to invest others doing Google searches for various keywords marketing Fund. This is a very effective way of generating traffic to your site, but it can be very expensive so it is good, have a little experience and know what you do next. Google AdSense is on the other side of the coin, where you allow other marketers, are in Google AdWords investment, place their ads on your site. When someone who attended actually view your site on the clicks, then Google pay a certain percentage of this money as a Commission in your Google account. That are great tools to get to!

If you are for images of a specific search term or topic, only be in the search box and include the word "Pictures", and you'll soon see, a wide range of different images, you probably are looking for. A number of these images, you can use for your own applications as you need are public domain. Feel free to Google maps use, if you are looking for directions from one place to another, and if you know the exact address you will quite specific directions.

The latest and most complex Google applications is the Google Earth, which is actually pretty cool! It will show you satellite views from various parts of the world, including your home! Just enter the address and it is as much of a close-up as possible in with NULL... Investigation of the bottom of the oceans and seas that show topography and seamounts had other uses people! Or look to hard to get to canyons or parts of the dense jungle, where they have discovered ancient temples and pyramids in the foliage and ground buried. This is also a great tool!

There are so many great and fun applications with your new Google home page that you will regret it is not! If you have any questions, Google is very good with explanations in the various sections, and most probably already have people the same question had before, so it is a very simple question to find the answer. If you have set up the Google home page on your computer, try it! Probably you use their search engine already almost exclusively anyway... Have fun!

Google and Sun - a partnership to the kill Microsoft or a deal with the devil?

While large and far-reaching could have the impact, only Google knows what it wants safe. We can speculate however and that is what this article is. As a business good for Sun (and Google) or is it a pact with the devil?

At first glance how much does not seem like a business. After all Java for most people is only a plug-in for your Internet browser. What would be good as a business to Google? Well can, take a look at, what Java can do. The following website is taken directly from Sun's:

The Java programming language is robust and versatile, so that developers:
Write software on one platform and run it on another.
Create you are running programs in a Web browser.
Develop server side applications for online forums, stores, polls, HTML forms, and more.
Writing applications for mobile phones, two-way pagers, and other consumer devices.

Let it break me for you - point by point:

Write software on one platform and run it on another

This means it me all - platform independent applications. What is one thing well does Windows? The programs run only on Windows. Typically port developer required to run applications on other operating systems such as Mac or Linux. But an application based on Java can run independently on each platform architecture.

Create programs to run within a Web-browser

This is an area that is missing the Google into something. Sure, that they own search and have some great Web based applications such as Gmail, but there are so many potential other Web based applications out there. Web based collaboration software, web based application suites (such as Office applications). The possibilities are endless.

Develop server-side applications

Again, because Java is platform independent, different types of server applications for Web sites can be created regardless of their operating system. An E-commerce system could that would easily integrated in a website, whether it be developed ASP or PHP-based. This would be a great competitive advantage for Google.

Write applications For...consumer devices

Portable web is the future. There is no doubt. Instead of building multiple platform dependent applications, you could again develop a Java based platform independent application. Because it is independent, you can run not only on your desktop or Web browser but also your cell phone, BlackBerry or PDA.

So, now that we can do Java what know, take a look at what can do Google with Java:

Competition on the desktop

Virtually every application could be ported from the current Windows-based version to a platform independent Java version. Current Google applications such as Picasa and Google Earth could now be available for non-Windows user.

A potential to compete with current Microsoft products is obvious. The first comes to mind is Microsoft Office. One would expect this is one of the first areas, the Google in is moved.

Although the potential is present. I think of how well that would be personal only for me. My computer runs Fedora (a version of RedHat Linux) for other reasons (games) my son's computer Windows XP is running.

If he needs help with homework can try it because it used Microsoft software and I use open source. If we could work together on something that which it runs OS on it would make our lives so much easier.

And this leads to my next point - cooperation.

In the competition with future Microsoft products

Microsoft has been getting better and better, but is still behind, which is online collaboration. Certainly they have Exchange Server and SharePoint, but these systems are somewhat cumbersome and not always play together nicely.

But imagine a system that is cross-platform (again), and multiple users from different areas use a common application base Web based and allows cooperation. The system could integrate for shared documents, calendars, email and other messages version control.

This system could be hosted by Google (of course), but will open that you want. In other words, you openly with clients or co workers, regardless of which system you use - you could establish a connection and read e-Mail work together with your PDA timetable could have dates with your laptop and even a Google talk VOIP call with your mobile phone. The possibilities are endless.

Take over the desktop

Google built to go one step further, what if a small light version of Linux that hosts links to Web versions of the Java applications are based. You had stored then this light, the Google Linux on a USB device.

So, no matter what computer you use, you could run it in the USB version of Google Desktop and all adjustments and settings as well as your home or the Office.

You borrow your laptop neighbours, or even go to the read mail Internet café and restart in "Glinux", react, dates and even a virtual conference via Google-IN the.

Again, depending upon, how aggressively will Google (and I bet, you are very aggressive) Google could be a real alternative to Microsoft. And not only Microsoft applications but Microsoft as a whole.

Google could take you from the desktop (or to eliminate it at least temporarily) as well as all MS based application.

Today, this is the true power of the transaction. While months or years to see the first "real" Google/Sun Java application take it, I expect to see, they take aim at Microsoft and what it has achieved.

Mission, to make accessible the worlds information as this is all in line with Google.

All what that is I, that I hope can say a great Bill Gates has enough war chest because he need it.

The end of the Google Gears?

Google Gears is a technology that allows applications such as Google documents and Gmail while offline. If you wanted to continue to write, but no Internet connection on your computer have you could so just like in a word processor that is installed. Once saved you can move the document or documents to any folder. Once your Internet connect all changes again synchronize would with the online version of Google Docs.

Actually, this technology will be pursued no longer not by Google. It's the end of the Google Gears. This does not mean that Google is going, although this functionality to stop. On the horizon is HTML5 which specify similar, if not better this using technology.

The big problem with gears is that Google has to keep it works with any operating system and any browser, work program. It did work on Mac at a point in time, but with Snow Leopard has been changed, the it so that Google Gears no longer worked. It is not known whether this was intentional or not. In Linux ever after if it could establish you it works but sometimes not.

With HTML5 these processes will be integrated to the chrome browser and there is support for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. As operating systems and browsers support all HTML5 is no chance that these Google applications can be turned off by developers or companies.

What is the AJAX enabled Google tool kit?

Error in deserializing body of reply message for operation 'Translate'. The maximum string content length quota (8192) has been exceeded while reading XML data. This quota may be increased by changing the MaxStringContentLength property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader. Line 2, position 8709.

First things first, Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) is not a technology. AJAX is a technique that has brought about a great change in the world of web development.

The AJAX technique comes in response to the increasing demand of interactive web applications. With AJAX, web page exchange small amount of data with the server behind the scene. This means that every time a new piece of data is entered by the user, or there is a request for a change, the entire page does not have to be reloaded. Usability is also greatly affected thanks to AJAX. After all, AJAX creates conditions that are conducive to a complex scenario that is both data-centric and user-centric. The difference between web pages and other applications has been thinned down with the help of AJAX.

As already mentioned, AJAX is not a technology and this technique fuses together various existing technologies such as XHTML (or HTML), CSS, the DOM, XMLHttpRequest (or alternatively IFrame), XML.

Here is how these individual technologies play a role in AJAX:

o XHTML (or HTML) and CSS are used for mark up and styling information.

o The DOM (Document Object Model) is employed for the actual interaction that happens with the information that is presented.

o The exchange of data asynchronously with the web server happens with the use of XMLHttpRequest. Although there are many cases where an IFrame object is used in its place.

o Even though even preformatted HTML would work, XML is the format often used for the transfer of data between the server and the client.

The advantages and disadvantages of using AJAX are in fact open for interpretation. Here are some of the reasons that are cited as advantages of using AJAX.

o The main reason for using AJAX is to enhance the user experience, and to make web pages behave more like standalone applications.

o AJAX enabled pages load faster because it generates HTML within the browser. The net result of the page loading in a staggered manner is the bandwidth consumption for a web page is considerably reduced.

o The third advantage is widely critiqued because of a common misconception about AJAX - that it is a mix n' match of various techniques, not leaving room for any consistency. Yet with AJAX programmers tend to create a distinct separation between the methods and formats that are employed for the purpose of information delivery. In other words separation between the content that is to be delivered, the structure and style elements of the webpage, and the functionality of the webpage.

On the flip side are the disadvantages that people associate with the use of AJAX.

o Given that, with AJAX, the page does not register with the history engine of the browser, the user is often unable to use the 'Back' function of the browser. Additionally, AJAX also makes it difficult for users to 'Bookmark' a page at a certain stage of us. The solutions created to tackle these problems have not been adequate, and these issues remain unresolved for the most part.

o The possible delay between user request and server response, is an obvious drawback of AJAX. This lag, known as network latency is made worse by a phenomenon that has nothing to with the technologies involved. When a page is rendered in entirety the human eye naturally re-adjusts itself to identifying the changed elements of refreshed page. On the other hand, when smaller portions of the page are rendered individually the user may not see the change immediately and imagine latency when it in fact does not exist.

o Another possible problem is that search engines cannot execute the JavaScript that is a part of the AJAX functionality. It is important to note that this particular problem is not restricted to AJAX.

o Yet another issue with AJAX is compatibility. JavaScript, which AJAX depends on, may be implemented differently by different browsers.

At the face of it, the disadvantages seem to weigh over the advantages making AJAX seem a less viable option for developers. There is no doubt that AJAX is complex, and there are still not many developers who are acquainted with its language. Yet a change has been brought about with Google slotting AJAX in their applications.

Google's move is a landmark event in the web development arena. Google applied compilers to help them carry out this mammoth task. Compilers give developers the chance to code/develop in a higher-level language, which it converts to a lower-level language which the computer understands. A Java to JavaScript compiler was created so that developers could work in the former and leave it to the compiler to convert the same into the latter. This technology was freely shared with the developer community and is known as the Google Web Toolkit (GWT).

The GWT development cycle is rather straightforward:

1. Use Java to design, develop, debug, and test. In this process you may or may not choose to employ GWT libraries that seem of use. You are free to use any of the Java tools that you feel comfortable with - Eclipse, IntelliJ, JProfiler, JUnit.

2. Use the GWT's compiler that distills the application from Java to a set of JavaScript and HTML files which can work with any web sever.

3. Ensure compatibility of the application with the browsers you want to support.

GWT can be run in two modes - hosted mode and web mode.

Hosted mode: Most of the development time ordinarily would be spent in this mode because since your application is run as Java byte code within the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), you can have the benefit of employing the debugging facilities in Java.

Web mode: In this mode, the application is run as pure JavaScript and HTML

If AJAX is meant to ease the surfing experience of users, GWT is meant to ease the process of developing to the farthest possible limit. And GWT has made it easy for developers to use AJAX for creating applications. For instance, common errors that occur with JavaScript such as typos and type mismatches can be identified at the time of compilation. There is often a conflict between what is easy for developers to do, and what is beneficial for users. This conflict, needless to say must end in the favor of what is beneficial for users. And the net result of using GWT and making things more convenient for developers would of course a better web experience for users.

The main features of the Google Web Toolkit are:

o Even though, unlike traditional HTML web applications, GWT applications do not need to fetch new HTML pages as they execute, they do in fact need to get data from the server. Also referred to as a server call, this mechanism is better known as Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and enables interaction with the server across a network.

o The presence of dynamic and reusable UI (User Interface) frameworks. The key difference between UI frameworks in GWT in comparison to others is the way widgets (Java classes on the client-side that are used to build user interface) are rendered.

o Full-featured debugging in the hosted mode.

o Allows for the appropriate management of browser history.

o Automatic compatibility with different browsers is yet another attractive feature of GWT applications.

o Yet another feature of the GWT is that it helps you internationalize your applications and libraries.

o GWT allows you to unit test in a debugger and browser.

o With the help of the JavaScript Native Interface (JSNI) you can add handwritten JavaScript in the Java code.

o The most important feature of the GWT is the fact that it is completely open source code.

For the uninitiated, all this sounds too technical. But the very purpose of GWT is to extract developers from the web of technicalities and give them space to create something that speaks with their end-user. And the demand for interactive spaces online is only going to increase. The AJAX trend is catching up and thanks to GWT developers are able to slowly but surely get over their initial apprehensions about the difficulties that AJAX poses. The role of developers in the development life cycle of a web application cannot be undermined, but with AJAX enabled GWT their role actually ceases to be just that of typing together back-end operations. Google Maps is an excellent example of the advantages of working with AJAX within the GWT framework. Google map is definitive example of something that is dynamic, attractive and completely user-friendly. Finding locations and using functionalities such as zoom in/out instantaneously is a tremendous advancement. Imagine, having to interminably wait for the page to reload when you click on a location or search for it in the search bar? The very purpose of having the map would be defeated, if it was going to take just as much time to look for a specific location online as it would on a printed map. There are some detractors who say

AJAX enabled GWT is the practical way forward. End-users hardly take this for granted, but the work that goes behind creating this ultimate user-experience pays off. And indeed, GWT has made ease of development possible without losing out on user-satisfaction. With techniques like AJAX, and systems like GWT the future of web development is one that holds a lot of promise for users and developers alike!

CECT G1 - a look at the clone of T Mobile Google Android phone

Probably the most popular mobile phone today is in addition to the iPhone T Mobile G1.  This little power house provides all Google applications (you tube, search, Gmail, maps, chat, calendar, etc..)  right at your fingertips, so you these applications that many use to daily with a push of a button you.  This phone has also the finger touch interface, with which you scroll through and to navigate by dragging your finger or by reflection, as you turn the pages of a book.  But this phone comes with a high price and with the requirement of a contract.  Many people are looking for a no-obligation way to enjoy the same features without the commitment.  Enter the CECT G1, made from the same people, all these popular iPhone clones brought you.   I'll go over some of the features of the CECT G1 in the following article.

The CECT G1 is a Dead Ringer for the original (see way): If you only on what looks like the phone, you will be pleasantly surprised by the knock off.  If you keep the phones side by side, it is very difficult to tell the difference because they look so much alike.  The clone has even the T-Mobile logo on you and the field is identical.  The welcome and menu screens are welcome little clock with the hands on the page completely identical, up to this.  Course can you adjust it, but you want it, but it looks very much like T-Mobile version directly out of the box.

Functions on the CECT G1:  I have to get this out of the way first.  The clone keypad or GPS or WiFi have not the coin toss.  You clones text and input data on a digital QWERTY keyboard that is almost identical to the iPhone. This is the job done, but it is not the real increased buttons like the original did.  Other than that this phone has all features of the original including all one-touch Google applications.  The phone is a quad-band.  It has the ability, based on how you hold it screen orientation change.  It has a large 3-inch touch screen, which is very responsive and has a high resolution.  It has an interface that is a dead Ringer for Google Android, and it has a 3.0 megapixel digital camera in the mp3 / mp4 players, Bluetooth, WAP browser, eBook reader, voice recorder and FM radio.  This phone has the ability to send long text SMS to a variety of groups and individuals. It offers space for up to 8 GB memory.

So the clone is as good as the original?: Responsive to everything and where a high-quality telephone, Yes. But the clone has not the keyboard, GPS or WiFi.  Still, if you are looking only for a cheap cell phone, that allows you, for a contract or after waiting most of the popular features without the hassle to be your contract, so that you can without another phone the clone may the way to go.

You can with the ever low cost GSM operator that you want and be no amount of money (as you can get one of these for not much more than $100 in General).   If you die for the original and all that implies, perhaps you happy spending the extra money, but if only the Google search functions on the cheap you tour, which knock off the work receives for very little money.

Google is trying to reel in Android carriers, can't catch a break

Google is trying to telling cleanup Android, carriers and manufacturers that they cannot get too crazy with their changes. Soets whacked the g by experts. Damned if you do ...?

It is difficult for Andy Rubin and his Android jobs to catch a fair break.  Work with all carriers and smartphone manufacturer, have Android came from nowhere to become the dominant OS in smartphone industry in over three years.  Windows Mobile, Symbian, cut and were scrapped now, BlackBerry and Windows phone 7 is a fight to gain some market share against the pittance surging Android.

Androids growth have also carried out Apple's iPhone, which continues to grow in number, flat on market share.

When I go to a best buy (BBY) today, will appear on 40 Android devices next to some feature phones, an odd Blackberry or Windows phone 7 and some of the iPhone.  Go to a Radio Shack or most U.S. carrier showroom and see the same thing.

So you think is constantly news about what Android is doing right?

It is hardly the case.

I spend most of my day to wade through reports on how Android devices are too cheap or that the user interface is ugly and either too much or too little as the iPhone.  The quality of apps are not snuff or screens are too large or small, battery life is horrible and the phones are too thick.  Over and over.

This, for the mobile OS that destroys everything else out there.

The two biggest complaints that I hear that Android devices are not updated quickly enough (true!) and that Android devices are fragmented--which is a symptom of the first problem.  Manufacturers and carriers are not motivated to update their mobile phones to the latest version of their OS because they want to sell new phones, not to keep their customers on the old ones.

Add to carriers and manufacturers are adding complicated and often devastating overlays to Android, which makes that much more difficult to upgrade.  That is why the Google Nexus products, which are sold free of carrier or manufacturer excesses, are so important. They are updated quickly and gives you the real experiences of Google.

But the initiative was not sufficient Nexus.

According to Businessweek, has Google in recent months to try to remedy the latter two issues.  By applying its long held "anti-fragmentation" measures, the talking carriers and manufacturers that they cannot get too crazy with their changes.  I can imagine that companies upgrade their units after releasing them is treated better than those who don't.

But that does not sit well with many who condemn the Androids ' open '-ness as a free ticket.  Google, which seemed to have some anticipation when you build out Android-developers license, gave themselves some controls for the platform as open source don't get overly.

There were similar outrage when Google announced that it would not publish the source code of Honeycomb until it had cleaned up the code.

Android 3.0, Honeycomb, is designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes and improve Android Favorites like widgets, multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization. At the same time, we're excited to offer these new features to Android tablets, we have more work to do before we can deliver them to other types of devices including phones. Until then, we have decided not to release the Honeycomb to open source. We are committed to provide Android as an open platform across many device types and will publish the source as soon as it is complete.

Other options open to manufacturers and carriers who want to play Google games but still want access to the code Android.  Amazon now has a fully functioning app store that provides device manufacturers the opportunity to enjoy the apps without Google's standard market--which only applies to approved devices.

CellularSouth released actually only the first Android device with Amazon's app store in the default installation.

Facebook and Microsoft (MSFT) have also been edged by Google.

Google's Rubin says that such clauses have always been a part of the Android licence, but interviewed for this story says that Google recently has tightened its policy. Facebook, for example, has worked to develop its own version of Android for smartphones. Managers at the social network is dissatisfied that Google may review Facebook's tweaks to Android, says the two people who were not comfortable talking about was named operations. Google has also tried to hold up the release of the Verizon Android devices that use Microsoft's Bing search engine rival, according to two people (VZ) familiar with the discussions.

While it seems intuitive that Google wants to limit the benefit is that both these competitors could derive from Android, with the help of clauses in Android-developers license, it does not sit well with people that simplifies Android as "open".

Both of these companies are probably on their way to the Department of Justice over these issues.

It is these types of actions that have led to find fault with Justice Dept., says a person with knowledge of the matter. Google spokeswoman Shari Yoder Doherty declined to comment on Google and its partners or complaints to the Government.

For what it's worth, almost two-thirds of Android devices that have checked in to the Android market over the past two weeks run Android 2.2, a relatively new version of Android.  The second most popular flavor is Android 2.1, which, together with 2.2, makes up over 90% of all Android devices.

EETimes extends this concern to chipmakers say that Intel does not get a fair shake.  Interestingly, the opposite is true for Android-powered GoogleTV, Intel only, at least for the time being.

How carriers and manufacturers respond?  An option for some is heading over to Microsoft's Windows phone 7 or develop their own Smartphone OS.  Motorola (MMI) is rumoured to do just that (they had a Linux distribution before Android, received bad) so it is not clear whether they think that they now can do better.  Samsung has its smartphone OS, Bada, as it puts on its low end phones, and also sells Windows phone 7 devices that focus.  HTC, ASUS, LG is in a similar situation, build both Android and WP7 devices.

Windows phone 7 is still an untested land for manufacturers, and with the latest Nokia announced, they have and wonder if there is nepotism there also.

What do experts, who just this week complaining Androids fragmentation, to clean up the perceived muddle?

Android is no longer open, and Google is beginning to assert control. Andy Rubin, Vic Gundotra, Eric Schmidt: brazen, lying hypocrites, all of them.

Poor old Android can't catch a break.

Google reaches agreement with FTC over phone

Google has agreed to acquire an independent review of their private lives once every two years and one user choose requirements before the privacy changes were adopted.

Google founder Sergey Brin introduces Google Buzz-Feb 2010

Today, in a blog post describes Google (GOOG) an agreement with the FTC over privacy concernes connected to the release of Google Buzz in February 2010.  Especially if users took no action to change the default settings, Google on your users ' Google profile Gmail contacts.  These contacts have been selected by Google if the user had frequently or recently via email or chatted with them (among other factors).

Google was relatively quickly with a fix (which was to make Google profiles private) but the damage had already been made to Google's reputation for privacy.

Privacy breech lead to a well publicized stalking cases, indicating that a previous Google Lobbyist and current White House employees kept in close contact with his former colleagues at Google, a double traffics cat for Google.

If if opt-in privacy disclosure becomes a baseline (and they do not have) for technological and social enterprises, which will affect the move of the FTC have on Facebook?  Facebook changes quite often user privacy preferences and opt-in each time the user might slow their rate of change.

A much longer explanation of the settlement were released by the FTC.

Update: Sen. John Kerry says that this solution shows the need for commercial secrecy legislation.

Glassdoor: Eric Schmidt goes out on top

The closing of Google's CEO came up on top of other group executives including Apple "CEO of the Decade" Steve Jobs in Glassdoor's CEO approval rating.

I'm not sure if the date has nothing to do with the latest results from Glassdoor.com, but now former Google (GOOG) CEO Eric Schmidt left his position on top of other tech CEOs.

Glassdoors results are far from scientific.  The survey results come from anonymous current and former employees, interviewed the candidates, and even companies themselves.  The figures seem to be the trend with the relative success of the companies involved.

Following Eric Schmidt (96% approval rating, up from 93 percent) and jobs (95% down from 98%) are Amazon's (AMZN), Jeff Bezos (83%, down from 87%) and Oracle (ORCL) Larry Ellison (73% down from 77%).  There have been some tumult of Ellison's life and his war with HP (HPQ) and Java color with Google may have disabled a few employees.

Yahoo's Carol Bartz was the biggest loser has fallen from 77% to 50%.  That puts her in the same holiday with Microsoft's (MSFT) Steve Ballmer (40 per cent-the lowest-down from 46%) and Dell (DELL), Michael Dell, who climbed from 36% to 48%.

Mark Zuckerberg was ranked in this study, although Glassdoor had put Facebook at the top of places to work in a survey last year.

Microsoft takes Google to the EU's anti-trust court

Shoe, is saying, now officially on the other foot.

Image representing Google as depicted in Crunc...

A move that showed how much has the competitive landscape moved over the last decade, Microsoft (MSFT) filed a formal complaint with the EU Commission over what it sees as anti-competitive tactics used by Google (GOOG).

Microsoft still reeling from its own anti-trust settlement in the EU just two years ago.  The ten year long struggle ended with Microsoft creates a browser ballot in its Windows operating system and to pay almost $ 2 .5b in fines.

"The company was the 800-pound gorilla now resort to antitrust, where is it always so that the results match the winners," says Michael a. Cusumano, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management who has studied Microsoft to the NYTimes.

Until now, Microsoft fought Google by proxy in the EU and the United States by including subsidiaries and partners to file anti-trust action against his rival.

The complaint is that Google is using its market leading position in the Search for blocking competitors (such as Microsoft) from entering search and other related areas.  Microsoft breaks down these six examples:

2006 Acquired first Google YouTube – and then there has been a growing number of technical measures to restrict competing search engines properly access to it from their search results.  Without proper access to YouTube units and other search engines, Bing cannot stand with Google on an equal footing in return search results with links to YouTube videos and the more users from competitors and to Google.

Second, 2010 and more recently blocked Google Microsoft's new Windows phones from functioning correctly with YouTube. Google has made its own Android phones to access YouTube so that users can search for video categories, find your Favorites, see ratings, and so on of the rich user interface offered by these phones.  It has done the same for the iPhone, which is offered by Apple, which does not offer a competing search service.

Google has unfortunately refused to allow Microsoft's new Windows phones to this YouTube metadata in the same way as the Android phones and iPhone do.  Microsoft's YouTube "app" on Windows phones, therefore, is basically just a browser displays YouTube's mobile site, but the rich functionality offered on rival handsets.  Microsoft is ready to release a high quality YouTube app for Windows phone.  We only have access to YouTube in the same way as other phones already doing, is authorized Google refused to provide.

Thirdly, Google is trying to block access to content owned by book publishers.  This was emphasised in Federal Court in New York last week in the decision include Google's effort to get exclusive and unfettered access to the large amount of so-called "orphan works" — books for no copyright holder can be easily found.  According to Google's plan would only its search engine to return search results from these books.  As the Federal Court said the rejection of this plan, "Google's ability to deny competitors the opportunity to seek further consolidate Google's stray books market power in the online search market."  This is an important first step, according to u.s. law, but it must be strengthened through similar positions in Europe and the rest of the world.

Fourthly, Google also restricts its customers – namely the advertisers ' – access to their own data.  Advertisers in large amounts of data in the Google ad servers manage their advertising campaigns.  The information belongs to advertisers: it reflects their decisions about their own activities.  But Google are prohibited by contract advertisers from using their data in an interoperable manner with other search advertising platforms, such as Microsoft's adCenter.

This makes it much more costly for Google's advertisers to run parts of their campaigns by any competitor, and therefore less likely that they will do so.  It is a huge problem because most advertisers figure that they have to market first with Google.  If it is too expensive to port advertising campaign data to competing advertising platforms, not many.  Competing search engines are left with less relevant ads and less revenue.  And this restraint is not visible for the consumers, its effects still felt on the net.  Advertising revenue is the financial fuel fueling billion dollars needed for ongoing search investments.  By reducing competitors ' ability to attract advertising revenue, beats this limitation in the center of a competitive market.

Fifth reflected the erosion of competitiveness in matters that go beyond Google's control over the content.  One way that search engines attract users is through the distribution of search boxes to websites.  Unfortunately, blocking Google contractual leading websites in Europe distributes competing search boxes.  It is obviously hard for competing search engines to get users when almost all of the search box is powered by Google.  Google's exclusivity terms has also blocked Microsoft distribute its Windows Live services, such as e-mail, and online document storage, by the European telecommunications firms because these services are monetized through Bing search boxes.

Finally, we share the concerns expressed by many others who Google discriminates against potential competitors by making it more expensive for them to achieve prominent placement for their ads.  Microsoft has provided the Commission with a significant amount of peer review on how the search engine algorithms work and competitive importance to promote or demote various ads.

Google has not formally responded to the charges that just says it had not done anything wrong. Google also face antitrust concerns in the United States, most recently with the Texas Attorney General, and of acquisition proposed ITA.

Verizon sales reps: iPhone sales strong, Thunderbolt stronger

The recently released HTC Thunderbolt keeps pace with Verizon iPhone, at least according to the Verizon store salesperson.

4Gs.

Some people have just got to have them.  Most agree that Flash is not the best Android device on the market today, but its ability to obtain speeds of 20 Mb/SEC, faster than many wired Internet service providers, have people snapping them.

Barrons quotes BTIG analysis analyst Walter Piecyk that drove controls of 150 different Verizon Wireless stores in 22 towns of the week:

.. in 61% of cases, store salesman told Mr Piecyk sales the about the same. in 11% of cases were iPhone sales. in 28% of cases was Thunderbolt forward.

"Clearly ThunderBolt strong sales can be a result of hype following the recent launch of ThunderBolt," two weeks ago, he writes. But qualitative feedback we have received from sales personnel was an expectation that ThunderBolt would keep pace with iPhone.

If you add Verizon's many other Android offerings mixture and believes that Apple (EMMYS) is not likely to introduce an iPhone 5 until autumn, it appears unlikely that a Verizon iPhone is going to stop the Androids.

So much for Verizon iPhone effect.

Google gives Kansas City Gigabit Internet

The first U.S. city that will be the recipient of Google's 1Gbps fibre to the home.

The King of Internet speeds

They might not have a playoff contender, but Kansas City has something significant to hang their hat.  It will soon have the fastest Internet in the United States, if not the planet.

Google (GOOG) announced today that it had selected Kansas City as the first community of its rollout of 1Gbps fibre to the home.  Google announced earlier, it would roll out accession to Stanford faculty housing.  The original Fiber for communities, the announcement was made in February last year.

We plan to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. We will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber to the home connections. We plan to offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.

The service is waiting for approval from the city's Board of Commissioners and should see a rollout begins in 2012 – that is unless the Internet service providers have introduced a block.  Google's fiber only replace not cable/Telecom Internet service providers in Kansas City, but it will also force the U.S. customers across the country to ask why they do not have the same options.

It is a good question.  I had 100 Mb fiber in France three years ago for 50 €/month.  Today is my best option from Verizon (VZ) less than half of that rate of $ 145/month.

When you select a city, the aim will be to find a place where we could build effective, make an impact on the community and develop relationships with local authorities and organisations to which the community. We have found this in Kansas City. We will be working closely with local organisations including Foundation Kauffman, KCNext and University of Kansas Medical Center to develop gigabit applications for the future.

In addition to cable companies and telecommunications have another party to be quite appalled about the announcement.  Nearby Topeka Kansas name to Google, Kansas last year in an attempt to woo Google and its super fast broadband connections.

Intelligent environments: Android now # 1 in the United Kingdom

Android is not a phenomenon only U.S. affair.

Digital Banking provides intelligent environments published the results of a study yesterday profiling smartphone buyers in the UK buying habits.

Around 28% of smartphone users own an Android, with 26% with an iPhone and 14% a BlackBerry, investigation of digital Banking provider environments exist. More than four million British people over the age of 18 take an Android, and it is popular with both young professionals and older people. More than a third (36%) of those aged 25-34 which smartphone owners use an Android phone, and a quarter (25%) of senior citizens who own a smartphone uses an Android phone.

This report is interesting because it breaks the stereotype that Google's (GOOG) Android is the only U.S. or U.S.-led anomaly.  The rise of Android in Europe will likely be rushed by the implosion of Nokia (NOK) Symbian platform as the company moves to a strategy for Microsoft (MSFT) Windows phone 7 in the next year or two (who want to buy a device on a platform for the dead?).

The report had a few other interesting nuggets:

Maps are great on Android: 34 percent maps in the top three apps they spend most time with, compared to the BlackBerry (RIMM), Apple (EMMYS) (28%). 59% of iPhone users in their social networks and 48% stake in its top three apps. 18% of iPhone users spend more than four hours on their phone every day, compared with only 4 percent of Android and BlackBerry users

James Richards, Director of mobile on intelligent environments, said: "the top three mobile platforms in the UK really seems to attract different personalities. It is fair to say that the iPhone and BlackBerry have strong identities but Android on a number of phones, we clearly can see more of a mixed user base. Perhaps we will see the telecoms industry in the future to tailor their apps and services to suit different requirements placed on mobile phones. "

It will be interesting to see how the market share numbers fluctuate as Nokia's Symbian heads toward zero.

Motorola XOOMs Zoom not print shop shelves

Do some extrapolation, Deutsche Bank figures that Xoom sale is approximately 100,000 so far.

Math is not hard.  Look at the Android Dev latest numbers for Android sales (1 April) ...

Android Dev

Duetsche Bank figures. 2% of Android devices accessed Android market translates to 100,000 units.  This means that appreciate the 50 million Android devices used Android market over the past two weeks.  Having regard to the Androids run rate is about 10 million units per month after a steep climb, that seems reasonable (although Google (GOOG) will not be able to publish such figures).

There is a unit of navigation running Android 3.0 (even if developers have adapted some of the other computers), Motorola (MMI) Xoom.

Xoom came without Adobe's (ADBE) Flash, but the possibility of using its own SD card slot, and only a few apps that took advantage of its larger screen.  It also operates a very new and largely untested version of Google's Android honeycomb.

In view of this, 100,000 units are not horrible — unless the look of the isle (EMMYS) on Apple's iPad, 2 which also has no official speeches be attached, but probably sold 100,000 units before lunch on day one of sales. Many experts believe that millions, if not millions of iPad, 2 have been sold already.

It is important to remember that the first Android phone, G1, wasn't a significant success for the first year of its existence.  Google kept iterating though and wound up with substantial successes with Droid about a year later.   With about 50 new tablets will downpipe run Honeycomb, it is still too early to count Google.

As for Xoom beat not the even older Samsung Galaxy tab in PC World tests.

It will be interesting to see how the landscape changes during the next year.

Using the Google Maps API with the Google Closure Compiler

WSJ: Google to invest 100 million dollars on initial YouTube content

Acquisition of next new networks is only the beginning.

Google (GOOG) has always cut a fairly clear line between "organize the world's information" and you create it.  The latest significnt purchase of next new networks, and a report from the Wall Street Journal today, however, seems to show that Google now goes on to create your own content.

The company is planning changes to the home page that would illuminate sets channels around subjects like art and sport. YouTube sees the introduction of 20 or so "premium channel" coming five to ten hours of professionally produced original programming per week. Additional channels will be assembled from content already on the site.

It seems quite in line with what the next new network did before they were acquired.

NNN is a network of networks that have made an art of finding Grassroots YouTube talent--as Obama Girl, now at home on her Barely Political channel--giving them equipment, ad and marketing support, syndication and cross-promotion in exchange for a sharing of revenues. The company uses what is called ' super distribution ' to satisfy the viewers where they are, to the iTunes, MSN, Yahoo, Hulu or emerging venues Boxees.

It is risky for Google/YouTube, especially in light of regulatory/monopoly/competitive buzz around your company right now.  When Google was just organise and host of video content, it was more difficult to show that it was playing favorites.  Now with your own content, will its breakdown strength is criticised again, in another sphere of influence.

In fact, sometimes it seems as if Google is trying to gain as much trouble as possible.

Independent Search Engine & Directory Network (ISEDN) - Breaking News!

Watch out for a shift in the pay-per-click (PPC) industry, happening right now! This shift is finally going to give smaller search engines and directories the ability to tap into the PPC market, currently monopolized by the big guns online (Google, Yahoo & MSN). They will attain this lofty goal by banding together and delivering paid ad placements on a mass community scale for a fraction of the cost.

More and more advertisers are going to want to advertise through the ISEDN because of the sheer amount of exposure that they will be able to receive through all the search engines and directories partnered together through this network.

I was able to be the first to interview Mel Strocen, CEO of Jayde Online, Inc., the parent company of ExactSeek.com.

The Independent Search Engine & Directory Network (ISEDN) was an outgrowth of ExactSeek's commitment to bring affordable and effective search advertising to the web community. Although ExactSeek was successful in partnering with a number of search engines and directories, it became apparent that popularization of a new pay-for-inclusion program would be better served by an active and independent association of search engines and directories than by a single engine.

Here are some excerpts from that interview:

Martin: "When was the ISEDN formed? ( http://www.isedn.org )"

Mel: "The organization was officially founded in June of this year, although the idea for a network of this kind was being discussed for several months previous to that. The ISEDN website, however, is only a few days old."

Martin: "How many members does the ISEDN network have right now?"

Mel: "47 members at the moment, but the network has been acquiring new members at a rate of 3 - 5 per week."

Martin: "What kind of market reach can the network deliver?"

Mel: "It really depends on how big the network becomes. Some search engine and directory members have reported 10,000,000+ searches/month but, given the rapid growth of the ISEDN and the fact that it's only a few weeks old, we really haven't had the opportunity to determine the total number of search impressions the network can deliver. We expect to receive specific numbers from the members in the coming weeks which will enable us to provide a more accurate picture of the network's search reach. My best guesstimate right now is that pay-for-inclusion listings are displayed approximately 120 million times per month. Of course, that figure will grow as the ISEDN grows."

Martin: "Why should advertisers choose the ISEDN network over Google or Yahoo?"

Mel: "The most obvious reason is cost. An advertiser buying a 3 or 12 month listing is looking at a cost of $3 - $4 a month. I'm not aware of any other engine that can match what the ISEDN offers in terms of value or exposure. Where else can you buy targeted keyword terms for less than $5 a month and get top 10 exposure for your site listings across 45+ search engines and directories?"

Martin: "You're right, that is amazing!"

Martin: "Because of the sheer distribution size this could potentially have, what preventive measures are being implemented for click fraud?"

Mel: "In the ISEDN advertising model there is no incentive for click fraud to occur. You pay a one time fee for your selected keyword term and that's it. Competitors or bots could click on your ad repeatedly and it wouldn't cost you a penny more. With the monetary motive for click fraud removed, it's unlikely to be a problem."

Martin: "What does the future hold for the ISEDN?"

Mel: "It's a little early for me to speculate on how the ISEDN might evolve. ExactSeek is just one member. Future plans will depend on member participation and input in the coming months. What I would like to see is for the ISEDN to become a counter weight to the gradual monopolization of search on the Web by engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN. I would also like to see the ISEDN contribute in other areas related to search such as search relevance and possibly the support of open source search software. In the long term, I believe the Web and searchers in general will be better served by diversity than by monopoly."

Martin: "Are members going to decide the future of the network?

Mel: "The short answer is yes, they will. To function effectively, the ISEDN will in time need to implement some kind of governing structure that determines the organization's future course. What that structure is and how the ISEDN evolves will depend on input from the members. Initially, direction and objectives will most likely be determined by majority concensus.

We've just added a private member discussion forum to the ISEDN website which will allow members to voice their views on issues such as the network's direction, objectives, online advertising, governing structure, network promotion and other topics of relevance to the membership.

Martin: "So will any of the discussions from the network forum be opened up to the public?"

Mel: "Eventually, yes. Assuming public interest, we'll setup discussion forums that allow webmasters and/or siteowners to ask questions and provide feedback to individual ISEDN members or to the membership as a whole. If we go this route and, I expect we will, it should help to improve communication between searchers and search providers. It should also help raise general public awareness of the many excellent directories and search engines on the Web that currently are under the radar."

Martin: "So how does the advertising portion work?"

Mel: "Every ISEDN member is provided with an XML feed to implement within their search results or directory listings. The feed can be modified by the individual members so that pay-for-inclusion listings are displayed in a way that matches their site look and feel, but regardless of how the listings are displayed, advertisers are guaranteed top 10 exposure across the entire ISEDN network. Premium placement of this kind is made possible by the fact that we limit the number of times any one keyword term can be purchased and because all paid listings are rotated in the SERPs (search engine result pages) on each individual engine and directory.

Surveys have consistently shown that few searchers look at more than 30 search results for any given search query. The ISEDN advertising model takes this into account and limits the sale of any keyword term to 30. If a keyword term has been sold less than 10 times, the paid listing almost always appears on the first page of search results (depends on how many listings an ISEDN member displays per page) although not always in the same position. If a keyword term has been sold more than 10 times then paid listings begin to rotate between the SERPs. On sold out keyword terms, the worst case scenario for an advertiser would be that his listing would appear on the first page of results roughly once of every 3 searches on his keyword term. This is somewhat offset, however, by the fact that the system supports broad keyword matching as well as exact keyword matching.

Martin: "With this first come, first serve program - Are you worried that bigger companies will buy out all the keywords available?"

Mel: "Not really. There are literally millions of keyword term combinations available. As the more obvious terms are bought out, it might require more creative thinking on the part of advertisers to come up with good searchable terms, but other than that, I don't anticipate a problem. Based on current trends, many buyers either forget to renew their keywords or simply let their listings expire. The end result is that thousands of keyword terms will be rolling over on a continual basis. In the event that the program becomes so wildly popular that keyword availability does become a problem, we may have to look at changing the parameters of the system to accomodate demand, but that's unlikely in the forseeable future."

THIS IS AN ADVERTISER'S DREAM!

Anytime a PPC or paid inclusion ad can get distributed through an entire network of competitors, it has the potential to be very powerful and deliver a lot of quality results. Personally, I would much prefer to advertise within 100 websites rather than just one. The power of advertising is in the numbers!

This couldn't have come at a better time. The SEO industry is crying for quality PPC alternatives. Google's recent battle with click fraud has left many advertisers world wide wondering if they should really keep their entire internet advertising budget within one basket.

Increase Your ROI Through Smaller Programs Online:

More and more, Smartads is recommending paid advertising in smaller, more tightly knit search engines and directories to our clients. ROI (Return on investment) is very important to the adverising industry, and we have found that advertising in smaller ventures rather than the bigger gorillas online, brings better results.

The reason for this is simple:

* - Less competition
* - Greater targeted audience
* - More local opportunities
* - More exposure for your money

In the old days, creating smaller, more targeted PPC campaigns used to be a lot of work for the marketing professional to research and maintain. The ISEDN has made that job a lot easier for us to maintain on a larger scale. Why would spend hours trying to find smaller directories and other programs, when you can find them under one umbrella?

Twitter - News at the Speed of Light

News is driven by speed. The media outlet that breaks the story first leads their competitors, and consumers reward those media outlets that get the timeliest news to them first.

It's true.  When you see the scrolling banner at the bottom of the TV that says "Breaking News", what do you do?  You stop and watch and listen.  When listening to the radio and you hear the announcer interrupt the song with a "news flash" - you immediately pay attention.  The most recent news is the most relevant, and media outlets have worked for decades to be the "first" to get the news to you before their competition.

Guess what?  Web 2.0 and the Internet have turned this news model upside down.  Now, instead of the news teams racing to the scene of an airliner accident to be the first with live video, and the first to interview the eyewitnesses, the first to break the news is no longer the media outlet.  The first person to break the news is the eyewitness, or even the person who was in the accident.  How? With Twitter. Twitter now breaks news at the speed of light.  Did you know that when the Continental airliner crashed into the Hudson River this year, that one of the passengers that survived the crash landing Twittered his friends, and even sent photos?  Instead of the news media outlet interviewing the survivor and breaking the news - the survivor was breaking the news himself via Twitter, with a real time update that he sent to his followers that they could then forward on.

The Internet and social media have transitioned power to the actual newsmakers, and away from the media outlets.  Does this mean that modern day media outlets will soon become outdated?  No - but it does mean that the speed of breaking news has just accelerated rapidly to almost near time information.  Twitter not only allows an individual to share news rapidly, it also is a simple way to share that information rapidly amongst a large amount of followers.   Now, rather than relying on a reporter in the field racing to the scene, the news media outlet has an army of millions of "news reporters" who can share breaking news with them instantly via Twitter as it happens.

Twitter also provides the immediate relevancy of news that the search engines have been looking for. When you search up the terms for "Hudson river airliner crash" on your favorite search engine after hearing about the accident, you don't want to find search results that share articles that are several years old.  The older search algorithms would often do this, as the "old news" had been indexed in the search engines and was deemed most relevant to your search.  The search engines have recognized the lightning speed of news via Twitter, and are already rewarding Twitter posts with immediate relevancy on the search engines.

News at the speed of light, online, and with your traditional media outlets.   Twitter has provided another breakthrough in providing breaking news as fast as possible.

The Growth in People Powered 24 News and Breaking News Internet Websites

There have been similar websites / concepts but these were based on earlier technologies, typically the mobile phone using MMS, they could never provide the comprehensive service now offered by the newer technology Internet news sites.

Mobile Phone Technology

Whilst mobile phones were successful for sending news and pictures, for example the Tsunami in Thailand, the mobile phone network often cannot cope with the volume of traffic during such an event. Networks were overwhelmed with people trying to phone friends or relatives to see if they were safe.

Within a very time of the London Bombings, mobile phone networks were unable to cope and the situation was made worse by people continually pressing re-dial.

Phone networks expect a certain volume of traffic based on the number of people who have subscribed to that network; the internet works on a different principle and so does not cease to function efficiently during a time of increased communication.

Breaking News

The speed at which breaking news hits the internet cannot be bettered as it only takes few a minutes for a user / reporter to send news in 3 easy steps:-

1. Click to write & report news

2. Add videos, photos & tags

3. Login or register to submit

Coverage of a UK based Internet News Website is typically:-

London and the Southwest N Ireland North North East North West Scotland Wales South West Midlands European and World Coverage.

There may also be other tabs for Travel news, entertainment, sport, business, politics, technology. New websites using Content Management Systems like Drupal (used by the White House) can easily cope with vast amounts of information.

News from any country in the world can be put on the website as easily and quickly as regional news, and the user can read the news they are interested in at the click of a button.

This contrasts to 24 hour news on the Television, where the viewer has to see news that may not be relevant to them while they wait for the news item that they are interested in. If they tune in to the same 24 hour news channel 30 minutes later, they may notice that some of the news is on a sort of loop, and they have to watch the same story again, even though they were disinterested in it the first time around.

24 hours news, the Ipad and mobile Internet Devices

The internet is now the best medium for breaking 24 hour news because of the increasingly widespread use of mobile internet devices. Examples are the Ipad, tablet pc's, notebooks and the latest generation of mobile phone with fast and efficient internet access.

Today's young professional increasingly use internet news sites at home and work. They can quickly zoom in on items of news, business or travel and then move on to the next item in their busy schedule.

Conclusion

When large numbers of consumers bought and used mobile phones either in addition to their fixed lines or as an alternative to having a fixed phone line, it affected the way we communicate. It is expected that as large numbers of consumers buy and use mobile internet devices in addition to, or as an alternative to their 'fixed line' (broadband or network at work / University), there will be increased use of highly successful people powered 24 hour breaking news internet sites.

Publicity Predicament #9 - How Can I Take Advantage of Breaking News?

If a news story breaks that relates to the services or products you sell, become alert, find an interesting way to make the connection, and take action as soon as possible. This is one of the fastest and cheapest ways to earn media coverage that captures attention in the marketplace.

The news you use as a hook might be front-page stuff or much more obscure. It could be national, international or local.

Let's say you're a plumber and you learn that the price of copper, which has been sky-high for the last year, suddenly dropped. The connection is that homeowners will soon have an opportunity to undertake kitchen or bath renovations for less because the price of copper pipes will be lower.

Or an earthquake occurs halfway around the world, killing thousands, in a city thought to have a low risk of quakes. You own an insurance company. You now have an opening to offer advice on whether or not those living in your locale should have earthquake coverage.

Or a celebrity's young daughter gets kidnapped, ransomed and returned home unharmed. Your firm manufactures bracelets that also secretly function as location devices. Had the daughter been wearing one of your bracelets, the police would have been able to find her within an hour.

Got the idea?

In the first two of these situations, the business seeking publicity serves local customers only, so they should direct their publicity tie-in efforts to local newspapers, TV and radio. In the third situation, the company should aim at national publicity first, since their customers live anywhere.

The simplest way to jump into action with your breaking news connection is to call a media outlet you have reason to believe would consider your story relevant and track down the reporter or editor who handles the subject matter. This is much easier than it sounds. You see, tips are the lifeblood of news organizations, so that unlike companies that shield employees from the public, they have to have a system of channeling story suggestions to the proper person.

All you have to do is call the main telephone number of the media outlet, ask for the "news desk" and then ask who you should contact about a real estate (for our first example), business (for the second) or child safety (for the third) story. When you reach the person covering your topic, explain your news connection in four sentences or less. If you're leaving a voice mail message, end with your call-back number. If you're talking to someone live, finish your pitch, shut up and wait for their response.

You can make this sort of pitch by email also, if you have a reliable email address for a reporter, tip line or topical editor. Keep it brief and to the point and include a phone number as well as your email address for a reply.

When you're trying to interest national media in your story, pitching media outlets one by one takes too much time. If you have a particular media outlet you think would be a likely match for your publicity angle, contact them as described above. For example, the child safety bracelet story would be perfect for morning TV news shows like "Today" or "CBS This Morning." Otherwise, writing and distributing a press release is the way to go.

A press release presents your news tie-in in a specific journalistic-style format. (Google "sample press release" to find models to follow.) Normally these are 400 words or less - a page or so - in length. Use a press release distribution service such as PR Newswire, PRWeb or Emailwire to get your release in front or media people and the public.

Above all, do not delay. What's hot and exciting today may evoke no interest at all tomorrow or next week. Inform yourself now about all the steps described here so that when news breaks that can launch you into the public eye, you're prepared to jump right into action.
