Google has white lists & exception lists

Google Whitelists/Exception ListsIn January, we have if Google has a white list for their search engine. Then a few weeks ago Google said no, they have white lists - in General. Yes, a vague answer.

In the spam police Panel at the SMX West, I put a question for Google's Matt Cutts forward, has asked him right, Google white lists.

Matt went a long way to answer, but basically said, Yes, Google has white lists for they call "Exception lists." But it is important to note that the exception lists on a per algorithm basis. Meaning, that is where a website is never get hurt in the Google results not only certain global white list - some call it the Wikipedia "Whitelist". Google said that most of the algorithms do not even have white lists, but have some and because not all search algorithms are a perfect 100%.

Danny and I wrote in detail about this at search engine land and then Google provided a statement:

Our goal is to provide people with the most important answers, as soon as possible and we do that in the first place with computer algorithms. In our experience, algorithms generate much better results than the man ranking websites of page. And given that it would be possible to hundreds of millions of queries that we receive every day, already manually work around them. In other words, we sometimes involve manual problems such as malware and take copyright violation to do. Like other search engines (including Microsoft Bing), we use also exception list if certain algorithms inadvertently impact Web sites, and if we believe that a whitelist quality considerably will improve search. We will protect any master list certain websites of all changes to our algorithms.

The most common manual exceptions we make are for sites that are adult content from their results filtering tool, who caught a way people, of SafeSearch-a. For example, "essex.edu" was marked wrong by our SafeSearch algorithms because it contains the word "Sex". On the rare occasions we make manual exceptions, we go our quality standards and guidelines to all sites to the great lengths fairly applied.

Of course, we would much rather not for manual changes to make and manage not for each exemption lists. But is the search still in its infancy, and not all questions our algorithms.

Yes, you said Microsoft, they also exception lists to use. But these lists are always revised and cleaned. D. h. If they push an update to an algorithm, try, make sure that the sites in the list of exceptions from the list, so perfect this algorithm can be removed.

For me, this is a big deal for the SEO space and I am not sure getting why it no longer play yet.

I might publish a video recording of the session in the Google and Bing, that allowed this exception list, so check back later today.
